About HMS Bands
Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band is comprised of sixth, seventh and eighth graders and emphasizes the fundamentals of playing wind and percussion instruments, as well as music reading. Symphonic Band students will perform at holiday concerts, Large Group Performance Evaluation, spring trip contests, and spring concerts. Students in Symphonic Band are encouraged to participate in different honor bands around our area and will also have the opportunity to compete in Solo and Ensemble festival each spring.
Concert Band
Concert Band emphasizes the fundamentals of playing wind and percussion instruments as well as music reading. Concert Band students will perform at holiday concerts, Large Group Performance Evaluation, some spring trip contests, and spring concerts. Students in Concert Band are encouraged to participate in different honor bands around our area and will also have the opportunity to compete in Solo and Ensemble festival each spring.
Intermediate Band
Intermediate Band focuses on the fundamentals of playing wind and percussion instruments as well as music reading. Intermediate band students will perform a holiday concert, Large Group Performance Evaluation and a spring concert. Students are also encouraged to compete in Solo and Ensemble festival each spring.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is comprised of a select group of band students. The Jazz Band focuses on the fundamentals of playing jazz literature including such styles as swing, Latin, and rock. Students also focus on developing their improvisation skills. Jazz Band members will perform at select concerts throughout the year.
